Katy's Questions about LDS Literature

  • Are the purposes for literature and Christian theology different, or are they essentially the same? How so?
  • How has LDS Christian literature evolved to incorporate more "literary" forms of writing, and why?
  • Is it possible to know simply from someone's written testimony or poem (or whatever else) whether or not they truly believe what they are writing?
  • How does LDS Christian literature really differ from mainstream Christian literature?
  • In what ways has LDS Christian literature helped build religious mythology up around the Restoration movement?
  • Why has LDS Christian literature, especially the Book of Mormon, been largely ignored by the general population?

  1. How does LDS Christian literature really differ from mainstream Christian literature?
I think there are a few difference. First our doctrine differs so much from other Christian religions that anything we write that is about our doctrine it is going to be extremely different. I also think we are a lot more concerned about being doctrinally correct in our work. Which shows in the way we write literature. -Siera Lara

  2. Why has LDS Christian literature been largely ignored by the general population? It think there are several reasons. One of them being, when it comes to fiction, there are a lot of other books out there that have picked up more popularity from the general population; however, every now and then, there will be a book or two that will be noticed (as to the popularity, it depends on the tastes of society at the time). The acknowledgement for the Book of Mormon, however, fluctuates. Each century in history has their moments, and currently now, there has been a lot of negative influence for it, due to music, film, other readings, word of mouth, etc.
